business writing (B1/B2)

This online course will greatly improve your ability to write letters and emails in English in a wide range of business situations.

Participants

This course is for anyone studying or working in business, commerce or administration who needs to correspond in English. It is particularly suitable for learners at the lower-intermediate and intermediate levels, but more advanced learners who are unfamiliar with business correspondence will also find it invaluable.

Course overview

The course is split into 8 blocks and we estimate that you will need about 2 - 3 months (3 - 5 hours a week) to study the course materials, complete the various activities, prepare the assignments and follow up on the feedback provided by your online teacher. However, there are no time limits or deadlines so you can take as much time as you need. The initial enrolment period will be set to a half year, but can be extended if necessary.

Materials

The course is based on the course book Company to Company and is supported by the virtual learning environment Moodle. Tasks and assignments are listed in Moodle, such as reading a few chapters from the book, submitting assignments, doing grammar, writing emails and letters, quizzes and much more. The course ends with a final assignment.

Personal tutor

An experienced online teacher will support you throughout the programme. You work at your own pace and place and at regular intervals in the course you will find assignments to complete and send to your teacher. If you have any questions about the material or the assignments, you can always ask your teacher.

Course contents

1. Emails, opening and closing a message, subject headings, asking for and sending information, email style, being polite. 2. Attachments, parts of a message, beginning and ending a message, email conventions. 3. Referring, giving good/bad news, saying what you can/cannot do, giving reasons, British and American English, paragraphs. 4. Letter layout, the date, making mild complaints, making a point, warning, making strong complaints. 5. Requesting action, apologising, faxes. 6. Personal business letters and emails, opening/closing, inviting, accepting and declining. 7. Informal business letters, informal writing style, replying to complaints, advising customers. 8. Arranging and confirming meetings, placing orders, circulars, revision and consolidation.

Course fee

The course fee €450.00. Including: book; feedback and support by your online teacher; 3 online meetings of 1 hour; use of Moodle until 1 month after completion; certificate of completion.
